Abstract In hospital mortality among patients with infective endocarditis in the critical care department at Cairo university is about 19%. Blood culture negative infective endocarditis represent the majority.Risk factors associated with in hospital mortality include, impaired left ventricular ejection fraction, septic shock, neurological complications and indicated non performedsurgery. Critically ill patients with infective endocarditis are vulnerable to long ICU stay because of the increased incidence of heart failure in this group of septic patients compared to others with sepsis due to other causes although in hospital mortality is nearly comparable |
