Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding Ethanolic Extract of Propolis on commercially available Ca(OH)2 liner as regard dentin bridge formation, setting time and solubility. Materials and methods: biological evaluation: Class V labial cavities were prepared on the anterior teeth of 5 rabbits and pulp exposure of approximately 0.5mm to 1mm diameter under saline spray solution without plugging the bur into the pulp was done. The material (Ca(OH)2 mixed with distilled water for the control group and Ca(OH)2 mixed with EEP and distilled water for the intervention group) was applied to the pulp without pressure and cavity was restored using glass ionomer. After 45 days, the rabbits were sacrificed and the teeth were removed together with surrounding soft and hard tissue and fixed in a suitable fixing agent. The sections were examined under light microscope for histopathology. Full description of the extent, nature and distribution of any dentin bridge was recorded. Presence or absence of tunnel defects and cellular inflammation which may interfere with effectiveness of the bridge as a barrier was also detected. Setting time: Total of 10 Specimens (5specimens/ group) were prepared in the form of discs in split Teflon molds having an internal diameter of 10mm and thickness of 4 mm on a glass plate. Different cements pastes were placed into the mold and after 150} 10 sec Gillmore needle was lowered onto the horizontal surface of the pastes and checked for indentation. This was repeated till failure of penetration of the indentor
