Abstract

Sepsis one of the most leading causes of death worldwide. Diagnosis of sepsis is very challenging as most signs and symptoms of sepsis are non-specific.Management of sepsis changed completely from the concept of six hour bundle to new concept of one hour bundle. Septic patient is very liable to electrolyte imbalance especially hypophosphatemia due to multiple mechanisms. Hypophosphatemia has a major side effects on septic patients as it may lead to arrhythmia, muscle weakness especially respiratory muscles that lead to respiratory failure and failure of weaning from mechanical ventilation. Patients with hypophosphatemia has a long duration on vasopressors, longer duration on mechanical ventilation, increased length of ICU stay and a high mortality rate
