Abstract Environmental policies concerning the reduction of transportation emissions are generalized. They are not specific to circumstances of different cities. The thesis aims at studying the different factors that can assist or hinder the efforts done by different countries to minimize transportation emissions. Through the theoretical study, the main concepts related to urban areas, smart growth, sustainable urban form, and climate change and air pollution area studied. It study the measures and policies used to minimize road transport emissions and study international trials that apply some of these policies.Through the practical study, the thesis check the effectiveness of the crosscutting strategies deduced from the theoretical study and reaches an optimum population density that minimize and balance both the local and global emissions from transportation. At the end, the actual factors that affect the behavior of residents to walk, cycle or take mass public means of transport to work are reached |
