Abstract Background: There is a scarcity in the published literature regarding the comparison between MRI and CT for assessment of cartilage involvement. Therefore, we conducted the present prospective study in order to assess the validity of MRI in predicting inner and outer thyroid cartilage laminae invasion in patients with laryngeal carcinoma. Methods: The present study was an observational descriptive study that was carried out from January 2018 to June 2019 at the Radiology Department of Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. A total of 30 patients with laryngeal carcinoma were included. Results: In our cohort, the mean age of the included patients 61.87 ±5.6 years. Almost 47% of the patients aged between 50-60 years old, 47% between 60-70 years old, and 6.7% aged more than 70 years old. All of our patients were males. The statistical analysis showed no significant differences between study{u2019}s readers in terms of inner lamina or outer lamina involvement in interpretation of CT & MRI separately yet, higher accuracy & confidence level were found on interpretation of both together. Also, There was very good agreement between readers in terms of inner lamina involvement and outer lamina involvement |
