Abstract

The present work aims to fabricate newly sensitive, fast and selective Al(III) ions electrochemical sensors based on CPEs chemically modified with diphenylcarbazone (DPC) ionophore and containing or not containing graphene nanosheets. The performance and characteristics of the sensors were discussed using potentiometric, cyclic voltammetric (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. In the potentiometric method the linear concentration range of the proposed sensors was 1.0 oM to 10.0 mM with good Nernstian slope using two electrodes (I) and (II). Cyclic voltammetric method for Al(III) ions detection in Britton{u2013}Robinson buffer solution of pH 3.0 revealed a linear relationship between Ip and analyte concentration over a wide range from 10.0 mM down to 0.1 oM. These electrodes proved to be sensitive and selective for Al(III) ions determination in spiked tap water, pharmaceutical preparation and drainage wastewater samples. The physical characterization of these sensors was also investigated via SEM, EDX and FT- IR analyses
