Abstract

Background: Down syndrome (DS) is considered the most common chromosomal abnormality in the general population. Recent research indicates relatively high rates of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children with DS. The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers with Follow-Up (M CHAT/F) is currently one of the most widely used ASD screening instruments internationally. Aggressive early intervention leads to the best long-term prognosis. Aim: Screening for ASD among children with DS using M-CHAT-R/F and estimating the rate of ASD among those patients. Methodology: Convenient sample of 290 Patients diagnosed as DS age ranges from 2 to 4 years old. Patient’s caregivers are subjected to the M-CHAT-R/F. The final diagnosis of ASD is confirmed by clinical assessment using international classification of diseases: Diagnostic criteria for research, 10th edition (ICD-10)
