Abstract The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using encoding strategies in developing EFL reading comprehension skills via encoding strategies among preparatory second-year pupils at El-Azhar Preparatory Institute Menof, Menofia Governorate. The participants of the study were 60 pupils. They were assigned into two groups: an experimental group(N=30) and a control one (N=30). The instruments and material of the study consisted of an EFL reading comprehensionchecklist, an EFL reading comprehension test, and a teacher’s guide. The experimental group pupils were taught using the encoding strategies and the control group received regular instruction. The treatment took place during the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021. The data obtained were statistically analyzed, and the findings revealed that using encoding strategies was effective in developing EFL reading comprehension skills among second-year preparatory school pupils at El-Azhar. |
