Abstract

The present experiments were carried out at the Experimental Farm of Itay ELBaroud Agricultural Research Station, A. R. C., EL-Beheira Governorate, Egypt, during the two summer seasons of 2018 and 2019 to study the effect of the four planting methods i.e. dry method plantation (Afeir), wet plantation (Herati), sowing after 10 days of layer irrigation (Improved Afeir) and sowing in the irrigated land (shine plantation) on some growth and yield components traits of the three soybean cultivars; Giza111, Line30 and Crawford to determine the most effective method could be used to increase emergence percentage and maximized the total seed yield /feddan. The results indicated that, Giza 111 cv. had the highest emergence percentages and seed yield per feddan, in both seasons, also recorded the longest main root in the 1st season. Crawford cv. showed the lowest number of days to flowering and maturity, the highest fresh root weigh, root/ shoot ratio, dry shoot weight, dry weight and number of lateral roots per plant in the 1st season as well as the longest main root, the highest number of pods per plant and seed yield per plant in the 2nd season. Line 30 had the highest fresh shoot weight, fresh weights of plant, number of bacterial root nods per plant, the tallest plants and the highest number of branches per plant in both seasons as well as the highest number of pods per plant in the 1st season. Regarding plantation methods, data revealed that, Herati method gave the longest main roots, the lowest number of days to flowering, the highest dry shoot weight, dry weight per plant, number of lateral roots per plant in the 1st season as well as the highest number of bacterial root nods/plant in the 2nd season. Shine method gave the highest emergence percentages, the lowest number of days to maturity, the highest number of bacterial root nods per plant, the tallest plants, the highest 100-seed weight and seed yield per feddan in both seasons. Afeir method gave the highest fresh root weight, fresh shoot weight, plant fresh weight, number of branches per plant, number of pods per plant and seed yield per plant, in both seasons. Improved Afeir method scored the highest root/ shoot ratios the in both seasons.
