Abstract

Burullus wetland is a coastal Northern lake situated along the Mediterranean Sea, between the western Rosetta and the eastern Damietta branches of the River Nile. The lake is the second largest natural lake in Egypt with respect to area and production. It is the main source of fish production in Kafr El-Shekh Governorate.
Lake Burullus is one of the Mediterranean eutrophic lakes, and major disposal areas for agricultural drainage water in Egypt. It receives approximately 4 billion m3 of drainage water per year from the Nile Delta agricultural lands, the drainage water contributes about 97% of the total inflow to the lake (3.9 billion m3 per year) to sea, while rainfall contributes less than 2% and groundwater less than 1% of the total water resources in the lake ecosystem. On the other hand, evaporation losses represent about 16% of the total water resources in the lake. The northern part of Nile Delta belongs to the Mediterranean arid region. The climatic condition is warm summer (20.8 to 30.7Cο) and mild winter (13.5 to 16.9Cο).
In the present study, fifteen sediments (The upper 10 cm) &water samples Ruthner bottle (1.5 liter) from all stations near the bottom were collected from different localities in the Lake Burullus along selected profiles in order to cover his whole area. and nine samples from drains surrounded the Lake. Samples were collected seasonally, during the period of summer 2016 winter 2017.
Lake Boto may start as a small lake separated from land by the first recurve from one side and the eastern side of Baltim town from the other side. On the bases of bottom configuration, the recurves are arranged according to their pattern of elevation and the variation in depth in the westward direction separating small lakes. There are also some islands arranged nearly parallel to the northern coastline limiting the southern side of the old lake Boto.
Lake Burullus is shallow basin with a depth varies between 40 cm near the shores and 200 cm near the sea outlet (Boughaz El-Burullus), where the irregularities that may be present on the bottom of the lake are mainly
