Abstract

The present in vitro study was designed to evaluated the effect of three treatment of white spot enamel lesion by resin infiltration (IconR ), remineralization (Tooth mousse paste) and micro-abrasion( OpaulstreR ) on enamel surface roughness and micro-hardness. A total of sixty intact extracted human permanent premolars were selected for the study. The selected teeth were divided into two groups according to variables to be tested (30 teeth for each group); surface roughness measuring and micro-hardness measuring. Each group was further subdivided into three subgroups according to methods of treatment of white spot lesion (10 teeth each); resin infiltration, micro-abrasion and remineralization. For the micro-hardness group, the selected teeth were sectioned mesiodistally parallel to the long axis of crown and roots were cut at the level of the cemento enamel junction by using a hard-tissue microtome (Isomet. 1000, Buehler Ltd., Lake Bluff, USA), to produce a relatively flat buccal surface to allow micro-hardness testing. The buccal surface of each tooth was covered by an acid-resistant nail varnish leaving only window of 2mm×2mm in the middle/middle of buccal surface. Specimens were subjected to a demineralization protocol for 1 hour until a white spot lesion was developed or (chalky white lesion). They were rinsed using air water spray for 1 minute to ensure washing all remnants.
