Abstract

Vertical alveolar bone loss in partially edentulous patients constitutes a major challenge. Many procedures have been described in the literature. The aim of the present study is to evaluate vertical alveolar ridge augmentation by ”tent pole” grafting technique utilizing implants and guided bone regeneration in one step procedure. This study was conducted by placing 15 implants in patients with posterior mandibular defects, selected and operated in Oral & Maxillofacial surgery department, Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, Egypt.
Surgical procedure
The patients were operated under local anesthesia, the flap was raised and the implants were placed in the alveolar ridge. The defect is over corrected with the graft material and the ptfe membrane on top of the graft. Also, the non resorbable ptfe membrane is secured to the alveolar bone with tack pins. Patients were evaluated preoperatively, after four months and after six months for bone height and density using cone beam computed tomography. The mean bone height value preoperative, four and six months later was found to be statistically significant.
