Abstract

Background and Aim: Sexual dysfunction adversely affects quality of life, self-esteem and interpersonal relationships and may often be responsible for psychopathological disturbances. Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is a common condition afflicting millions of women that can be cosmetically disrupting. We sought to evaluate the relation between female sexual dysfunction and FPHL in premenopausal women.
Methods:
Case-control study of 51 patients with FPHL and 50 age-matched control patients without FPHL among premenopausal women who visited dermatology clinics in Suez Canal University hospital.history, clinical examination, questionnaire administration and hormonal investigation ( Free Testosterone ,Total Testosterone ,SHBG) were performed for each of the total of 101women. The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) was used to assess the key dimensions of female sexual function. FPHL was assessed and graded by Ludwig’s classification.
Results:
Rate of FSD was 44.7% in affected group and 44.2% in control group (p=0.962). FSFI score in Affected group was26.40± 4.61 and in control group 27.05± 3.12 (p=0.433).There was no significant difference between affected and control regarding sexual domains. FSD is significantly compromised by increasing age in affected and control groups (p=0.002,p=<0.001) respectively and compromised by increase in parity (p=<0.001) in both groups.
Affected group had significantly higher rate of family history of pattern hair loss than control group(p=<0.001) with no significant different in term of androgens between both groups
Conclusions:
Our study suggests that FSD is not affected by FPHL. Increase Age and parity may have strong impact on sexual function in premenopausal women.
