Abstract
The aesthetic appearance of the face is mostly determined by the nose which is the most prominent organ in it. Over time, several new surgical approaches and ways to enhance the nose have evolved.1
A successful rhinoplasty procedure depends on a detailed recognition of the nasal anatomy. Individual components which make up the nose, such as bone, cartilage, soft tissue, and skin, and their relationship to one another, are interpreted to examine any rhinoplastic issue.2
Rhinoplasty remains to be a subject of discussion and debate among many plastic surgeons. Functional and aesthetic nasal analysis, different surgical techniques of the procedure, and management of postoperative complications are examples of subjects of discussion between surgeons.3, 4
One of the most difficult steps in rhinoplasty is osteotomy of the nasal bones, which is done blindly and with limited control. Lateral nasal osteotomy is mainly done to close the open roof deformity after removing the nasal hump, narrowing the nasal pyramid, and making nasal bones straight thus correcting any convexity or asymmetry.5, 6
A perfect osteotomy should be precise, repeatable, and yield expected results. It is critical to achieve enough bony mobilization while minimizing soft tissue injury. Meanwhile, mobilization should be judicious to avoid severe constriction that could affect breathing negatively.
