Abstract Open heart Surgical Site Infection (SSI) is a life-threatening complication that occurs after cardiac surgery, it is associated with severe outcomes including exacerbation of all the following : hospitalization, healthcare costs, morbidity, and mortality. The present study aimed to design an educational booklet for nurses about the prevention of open heart surgery’s site infection, through two study designs: that combined a cross-sectional study design and experts’ opinions (Delphi). The study was carried on 77 nurses enrolled conveniently from Open Heart Surgery Unit, Mansoura University Hospitals, as well judgmental sample of 15 experts to conduct Delphi’s round to evaluate the design educational booklet. The main findings illustrated that 45.5% of nurses had a poor total score level of knowledge (< 60.00 – 69.99), and 41.6% of them had an expert total score level of performance (75 - < 85%) regarding the prevention of open-heart surgical sit infection. The researcher concludes, all fifteen expert panelists have consensuses to all evaluation elements of the designed educational booklet in first Delphi’s round in addition to all fifteen nurses. Accordingly, the following are recommended : adopt, as well as let the designed educational booklet be available to nurses in their work settings and conduct job training programs for nurses on the prevention of open heart surgery site infection. |
