The current study aimed to identify the prevalence of Early Maladaptive cognitive Schemas in a sample of university students, and to identify the contribution of Early Maladaptive cognitive Schemas in predicting both Self-Esteem and Depressive Symptoms, and the contribution of Self-esteem in predicting Depressive Symptoms, and finally revealing the constructivist model that explains Relationships between early adaptive cognitive schemas and depressive symptoms in the presence of self-esteem as a mediating variable in a sample of university students. The study sample consisted of (1000) male and female students at the Faculty of Education, Sohag University, whose ages ranged between (18-23) years, with an average age of (20.34), and a standard deviation of (1.109). were applied to them, which are: The Early Maladaptive Cognitive Schemes Scale prepared by (Young, 1999, translation and localization: Mouhamed Abd al-Rahman and Mouhamed Saafan, 2015), the Self-Esteem Scale prepared by (Hudson, 1994, translation and Arabization: Magdy El-Desouki, 2004), and the Beck Scale. For depression ”second version” prepared by (Beck, 1996, translation and localization: Gharib Abdel-Fattah Gharib, 2000), and the results reached The prevalence of early adaptive cognitive schemas at a high rate of about (33.4%) in a sample of university students, The Early Maladaptive cognitive schemas contributes to predicting self-esteem in a sample of university students, and explains about (14.8%) of the variance in Self-Esteem, and Self-Esteem contributes to predicting depressive symptoms in a sample of university students, and explains about (4.9%) of the variance in depressive symptoms, and the Early Maladaptive cognitive schemas contributes to prediction Depressive symptoms explain about (30.2%) of the variance in depressive symptoms, Finally, there is a Structural model that explains the relationships between Early Maladaptive cognitive schemas and depressive symptoms in the presence of self-esteem as a mediating variable among a sample of university students.
