Abstract

Genital tract infections (GTIs) among women have become a widespread growing health issue worldwide, while causes some complications for pregnant women include pelvic inflammatory disease, tubal factor infertility and chronic pain. Some adverse effects during and after pregnancy are abortion, premature rupture of membranes, ectopic pregnancy, low birth weight, maternal sepsis, preterm delivery, intrauterine growth restriction, intrauterine death, neonatal infections, postpartum infections, ascending infection and chorioamnionitis. Genital hygiene is an essential method of preventing genital infections and their more severe consequences so it is important to identify genital hygiene habits of pregnant women throughout pregnancy to make genital infections under control. The current study aimed to evaluate pregnant women’s knowledge and behaviors regarding genital tract infections Study design : A descriptive study design was used Study sample : A purposive sample of 231 pregnant women who were attending to outpatient antenatal clinic of new obstetric and gynecological Hospital during their pregnancy according to the following criteria Pregnant woman’s age from 20 to 35 years old Pregnant woman is not less than 12weeks of gestation Pregnant woman diagnosed with genital tract infection Pregnant woman has no medical or psychological problem.
