Abstract associated nowadays with frequent HAIs and is known to be the major cause of multiple outbreaks [9]. Since resistance to multiple antibiotics is a common feature in environments of high antibiotic pressure, such as intensive care units (ICUs), the sole therapeutic option remaining for the treatment of infections caused by A. baumannii is the use of colistin [10]. Development of novel therapeutics to treat MDR infections caused by A. baumannii has become an absolute necessity. Many approaches for alternative therapies are already developed including the use of antibiotics in combination or with adjuvants, bacteriophage therapy, the use of antimicrobial peptides, photodynamic therapy, nanoparticles, and vaccines [3]. Further studies and clinical trials are still required to prove the efficacy and safety of such alternatives. |
