Abstract

The liver plays a central role in transforming and clearing chemicals and is susceptible to the toxicity from these agents. More than 900 drugs have been implicated in causing liver injury and it is the most common reason for a drug to be withdrawn from the market. Chemicals often cause subclinical injury to the liver, which manifests only as abnormal liver enzyme tests. Drug-induced liver injury is responsible for 5% of all hospital admissions and 50% of all acute liver failures. Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) is having multifaceted pharmacological activities. The GBE may work through various mechanisms of action. Several investigators reported that Ginkgo biloba polysaccharides (GBP) have different biological actions, such as antioxidation, anti-inflammation, immunomodulation and anti-tumor, GBE has been also widely used in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, liver cirrhosis and acute and chronic renal disease. The present study aimed to evaluate the possible therapeutic effect of GBE, AuNPs and GBE loaded on gold nanoparticles against KBrO3 induced hepatotoxicity in rats. The results show that. GBEAuNPs treated group had more effect as compared to GBE treated group and AuNPs treated group.
