Abstract Since employees’ work engagement is becoming more essential for service employees, especially in the hospitality sector, in today’s highly competitive market, which has been claimed to be influenced by a number of job resources. This study was conducted in order to assess the effect of these job resources on hotel employees’ work engagement in the Egyptian Hotel Market. The study involved also exploring if the employees’ demographic profile and direct/ indirect customer-contacting is related to their work engagement. Using stratified random sampling technique, a total of 621 hotel employees working in five-star hotels in Cairo, Alexandria, Hurgada, Sharm El-Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan participated in the study. The survey questionnaire instrument was conducted for data collection. Empirical analyses were conducted using descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, and regression. Findings revealed that several job resources positively affect the hotel employees’ work engagement. Job resources of supervisor support, supervisor feedback, training and opportunities for development had the most effect on work engagement. Autonomy and rewards had the least effect. Results indicated also that employees’ demographic profile and direct/ indirect customer-contacting were related to their work engagement. Conclusion implications for academics and hotel mangeres, limitations and recommendations for future research are discussed |
