Abstract Background: Of all blood stream infections, Candidaemia implies a big danger with high fatal outcome; especially among low age group of pediatric patients with increasing reports towards isolated non albicans over albicans species and recovery of antifungal resistance Aim: The present study aimed at characterization of Candida species in patient with candidaemia, and demonstrating the associated different risk factors as well as recognizing the susceptibility of isolated Candida to different antifungal agents and the prevalence of fluconazole resistance. Methodology: Microbial isolation and identification from positive blood culture bottles of patients with blood stream infections were conducted by the standard microbiological proceduures.Candida isolates were identified by microscopic Gram staining ,Germ tube as well as chromogenic media. Antifungal susceptibility testing against antifungals (Caspofungin, Amphotericin, Itraconazole, and Fluconazole) was done by E-test for MIC determination |
