Abstract

Occlusal pits and fissures are the most susceptible sites for the development of dental caries. Pit and fissure sealants were produced to prevent occlusal caries because they act as physical barriers between the oral environment and the tooth surface. The longevity and effectiveness of restorations also depend on the interaction between microorganisms and restorative materials. This in-vitro study was conducted to compare between the effect of two fluoride releasing fissure sealants (Teethmate F-1 and Fissurit F) on theinhibition of Streptococcus mutansand Lactobacillus acidophilus. The strains of Streptococcus mutanswere isolated in MitisSalivarius Bacitracin agar and the strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus were isolated in Rogosa selective agar plate. The agar plates were incubated for 48 hours at 37{u00B0}C. The strains were grown in the Brain Heart Infusion broth for Streptococcus mutans and in the MRS broth for Lactobacillus acidophilus and were incubated anaerobically for 18 hours at 37{u00B0}C. The strains were grown and subcultured in MitisSalivarius agar for Streptococcus mutans and in blood agar plates for Lactobacillus acidophilus. Four wells were prepared on each agar plate using a standard bore with a diameter of 5 mm.Ten specimens of each material were prepared with the diameter of 5 mm and height of 3 mm and placed in the agar plates (Kumar et al.,
