Abstract This study investigated the impact of using Peer Assessment strategy based on some tools of Moodle to develop writing skills of prospective teachers of English in Egypt. The number of participants in this study was 30 fourth -year English department male/ female students in the college of Education, Tanta University, Egypt. The participants were selected randomly, and assigned to an experiment group. They studied the types of compositions (essays). All essay assignments were checked by peers and got comments from these peers. The period of applying the research was four weeks in the second semester of the academic year (2016-2017). The instrument was a pre/post writing test. The test was adopted from the TOEFL exercise book, 2003. The pre/posttest was analyzed using statistical analysis SPSS 22, Alpha Cronbach formula, Paired Sample t-test and Eta squared formula. The findings revealed significant differences at 0.01 level between the pre/posttest of writing with the experiment group in favor of the posttest.
