Abstract

Oral health problems for hearing- impaired children are higher than the normal children in Egypt, and to maintain good oral hygiene for these children, the training must be directed toward caregivers. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of oral health training program on knowledge and practices of hearing- impaired children and their caregivers. A quasi-experimental research design was utilized to fulfill the aim of this study. The study was conducted in two primary governmental schools of El-Sayeda Zeinab Educational directorate, Cairo governorate. A convenient sample of 52 primary school age children and 50 caregivers were included in the study. Data were collected using two tools: 1- Structured interviewing questionnaire about oral health. 2- Oral hygiene observational checklists. The study revealed a statistically significant difference between children{u2019}s and their caregivers{u2019} total knowledge scores and total practices scores regarding oral health before, immediately and three months after the program implementation. Children{u2019}s and their caregivers{u2019} total knowledge scores and total practices scores were increased immediately and three months after the program compared to their scores before program implementation
