Abstract To validate the reliability of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) corrected HU using the correlation equation with the CBCT gray values, with true Hounsfield units (HU) derived from multislice computed tomography (MSCT) as a gold standard The study was performed on human dry mandiblescollected from the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, and Cairo University. 4 main reference areas on each hemi mandible as follow 1.Midway the distance between the lowest point of the sigmoid notch to the highest point of the ligula. 2.Midway the distance between the most anterior point of the external oblique ridge to the center of the mental foramen. 3.Midway the distance between the center of genial tubercle to the center of mental foramen. 4.Midway the distance between posterior point of external oblique ridge and the center of the mandibular foramen Bone density is one of the most important characteristics of bone quality. Assessing bone density prior to implant placement aids the practitioner in choosing a suitable implant site, after many years of clinical trials and practice, CT scan gained popularity in assessing bone density at the prospective implant bed, and became a gold standard in assessing bone density CT is considered the gold standard imaging technique to assess bone density |
