Abstract

Non-nutritive sucking habit, is a repetitive behavior that serves no perceivable social function, but effects the occlusion if persists for a longer period. NNSH not only receives attention from health professionals but often is an area that greatly concerns the parents and family of a child who practice this habit. It is, therefore, most important for the dentist who cares for children to understand this habit well to be able to help the parents and the child relate rationally to it and to manage the child{u2019}s dental situation. The current study was conducted to determine the prevalence of NNSHs and associated factors, among preschools and primary school Egyptian children in Giza Governorate, Egypt. Permission to carry out the study was obtained from the relevant schools{u2019} authorities and principals of respective schools before proceeding. Written informed consents were also obtained from the parents/guardians of students participating in this study to use information supplied in the questionnaires for research purpose and receive dental educational session according to respective school program
