Abstract

Initial implant stability is a key factor in implant success that{u2019}s why several studies were done targeting factors affecting and correlating to implant stability. Some of these studies were in vitro researches aiming to correlate implant stability assessed using Osstell, Periotest and OsseoCare with bone density values yielded from CT and CBCT images. Nowadays, due to the fact that CBCT is considered the state of art in maxillofacial imaging and also since Osstell is the most frequently used device in assessing bone stability both devices were used in current study. This study is an observational clinical study in which 16 patients with 29 implants were assessed for stability and bone density. All factors that may affect the results were eliminated such as grafted sites or any augmentation procedures, fresh extraction sockets, sites with sinus lifting and under sizing osteotomy preparation protocol. All data were collected, tabulated and statistically analyzed. Within the limitation of this study it could be concluded that no correlation was detected between pre-operative bone density yielded from CBCT images (gray values) and implant stability values measured by Osstell
