Abstract

Background: Early diagnosis and treatment help to prevent progressive joint involvement and disabilities. Egyptian studies which investigated the prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) among psoriasis patients are few with controversial results. Relatively little is known about predictors of PsA development from different clinical features of psoriasis. Objective: to assess the prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) among patients with psoriasis, estimate the problem of underdiagnosis of psoriatic arthritis, determine clinical predictors for psoriatic arthritis development and describe associated comorbidities with psoriatic arthritis. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study involved consecutive 200 psoriasis patients who attended the dermatology outpatient clinic, Cairo University Hospital, within one year of the study period. Screening questionnaires (PEST & EARP) for PsA were applied followed by CASPAR criteria, full rheumatological, dermatological evaluation, comorbidities profile, laboratory investigations and x-ray of involved joints were done for PsA patients. BSA, PASI and PDI tools were used for assessment of psoriasis. cDAPSA score was used for assessment of psoriatic arthritis activity
