Abstract

Nausea and vomiting adversely affect quality of life of millions of patients each year. If they are inadequately controlled by antiemetic treatment, they will result in health complications. Good antiemetic control is achieved by administration of the appropriate antiemetics prior to initiating the chemotherapy. The use of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists achieved a major advance in treatment of nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy because of the absence of common adverse effects associated with the commonly used antiemetic drugs. Granisetron hydrochloride (GSH) is a potent and highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist drug. It is indicated as an effective medication for management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (RINV), and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) have started gaining popularity and acceptance as new drug delivery systems due to their unique properties. Unlike the conventional tablets, they quickly disintegrate and/or dissolve in the mouth without administration of water, making them particularly suitable for pediatric and geriatric patients
