Abstract The axillary lymph node status is used to be determined by the histological results of axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) which is associated with inevitable complications, the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has gradually replaced ALND in recent years however it is still invasive method and false positive result cannot be avoided. Ultrasound is a non-invasive method and it plays an important role in the preoperative evaluation of the axillary lymph nodes in breast cancer. Sonoelastography or ultrasound elastography is complementary tool to US that utilizes the long-established clinical concept that malignant lesions are often stiffer than normal tissues. Tissue stiffness , which is another important biomechanical characteristic of the tissue that is not be reflected on the gray-scale sonograms, can be estimated by the sonoelastography |
