Abstract

Introduction:Paediatric infectious diseases have been reported since Hippocrates. Among the most common childhood infections are respiratory tract infections, gastroenteritis, skin infections and urinary tract infections. There is a bidirectional relationship between malnutrition and infection; malnourished children are at increased risk of infection, and chronic or recurrent infections often contribute to malnutrition. It is well established that the consumption of appropriate nutrients is critical to build up one{u2019}s immune defense against pathogens. Antimicrobial agents have been greatly important cornerstones of clinical medicine since the second half of the 20thcentury and have saved a great number of people from life-threatening bacterial infections. However, improper use of antibiotics may lead to destruction of microflora, emergence of multidrug resistant microorganisms, use of more combination of antibiotics; fearing the experts about future availability of antibiotics. To tackle this problem, global initiatives are trying to promote ”antibiotic stewardship”, with the aim of enhancing the appropriateness of antimicrobial use
