Abstract
The present thesis is an attempt to explore how computer-aided translation tools (programs) (CAT tools) could be used in English to Arabic translation, as well as localization, to increase productivity and quality within tight deadline. A survey is conducted as a field study of the practices and experience of professionals in the field of English to Arabic translation/localization in the Arab market in general and the Egyptian one in particular, and to what extent they use CAT tools in their education and work like universities, translation firms, media agencies, and more. This study is conducted in the light of Skopos theory by vermeer (2006) because in localization, in order to translate the content properly, the client{u2019}s requirements should be specified and observed during the translation, and the culture of each locale where the products will be sold and used should also be taken into consideration. In the explanatory part, the common features (properties) of CAT tools (programs) are defined by analyzing real tasks, sent to the current researcher, (files that are needed to be translated from English into Arabic) with SDL studio 2014-2019 (one of the commonly-used CAT tools), taking screenshots of such features, and explaining each one of them. Then, in the exploratory part, an empirical method is used to explore to what extent CAT tools may be useful for English to Arabic translation field by sending an English text to be translated into Arabic by two groups (5 persons in each group; one team leader and 4 translators); one group (experiment group) is asked to use the CAT tool Studio 2014 and the other (control group) is asked to not use any CAT tool, then they are asked to send it back within tight deadline.
