Abstract

Aim: The aim of this work is to investigate the potential role of circulating Fractalkine as a risk factor for metabolic syndrome and subsequent disorders as T2DM with and without CVD. Subjects-Methods: This study was carried out on 80 participants divided into two main groups 20 non metabolic and 60 metabolic, the latter Further subdivided into three subsets (solely metabolic, metabolic with subsequent diabetes, metabolic with subsequent diabetes and cardiovascular disease).Lab investigations were measured to evaluate the metabolic parameters. Results: Our results revealed that Fractalkine levels were elevated in each metabolic subset as compared with control group, also our results showed a positive highly significant correlation between Fractalkine and weight, BMI, WC, FBG, FINS, HOMAIR, Triglycerides, DBP and Number of metabolic parameters. While, there was a negative highly significant correlation between Fractalkine and HDL-c in main metabolic group. Conclusion: We conclude that serum Fractalkine levels are elevated in metabolic syndrome and positively correlated with metabolic parameters suggesting that Fractalkine might be a biomarker for metabolic syndrome
