Abstract Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most commonly reported nerve entrapment syndrome , 8% of population workers reported having CTS in 2010.Purpose: To compare between influence of shock wave therapy, pulsed electromagnetic field and low level laser on CTS patients. Methodology: Forty five patients from both genders (10men &35 women) aged between 20-45 years were assigned into three equal groups. group (A): received a program of low level laser with a beam diameter of 0.5 cm, a wavelength of 904 nm. The irradiance used was 6.0 J per treatment site, which was delivered by applying 10mW in continuous wave mode for approximately 90 Sec for each point above wrist(whole session 6 minutes) Group(B): received a program of pulsed electromagnetic field around wrist, for 20 minute every session and group (C): received a program of shock wave therapy for 2000 pulse per session at energy flux density (EFD) of 0.03mJ/mm2 1.6 bar per session. one time \week for 6 weeks ,the program for group (A) and(B) 3 times\week for 6weeks day other day. The evaluation procedures had been done for all patients before and after 6 weeks of treatment program including median nerve motor and sensory conduction velocity study, Pinch dynamometer to assess muscle power of thumb and index finger, and Sensory assessment using visual analogue scale to detect pain intensity for all patients. Results :The highest improvement in the values of median sensory and motor nerve conduction velocity was clear in group (A)than group(B)&(C) (P value<0.001) |
