Abstract

Introduction: breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women. targeted therapies have achieved great success in the face of many types of breast cancer, however, triple negative breast cancers lack the expression of traditional therapeutic targets and some of the non triple negative cancers develop resistance to current therapies. C-MET (mesenchymal epithelial transition) emerged as a potential future target with some reports of preferential expression in triple negative cancers and some success in early clinical trials. However, the main cause of failure of these trials was attributed to patient selection.aim: assessment of c-MET expression in immunohistochemical surrogates of molecular types of breast cancers and explore the association of this marker expression with other clinicopathological factors. method: retrospective study assessing c-MET (clone SP44) expression in 55 cases of breast carcinoma by immunohistochemistry. The association of the c-MET with various clinical and pathological variables was assessed by univariate and multivariate analysis.results: c-MET expression was significantly associated with age at presentation, prognostic stage, carcinoma with medullary features, high tumor grade, high tumor infiltrating lymphocytes, hormone receptor status and triple negative subtype at univariate analysis.Only progesterone receptor (PR) negative status and high tumor infiltrating lymphocytes were significantly associated with c-MET expression in a multivariate analysis
