Abstract

Introducing to the importance of electric vehicles at the present time and in the future. As a result of the lack of available of the fossil fuels with the increase in the availability of electric energy and the expansion of finding sources of electric power generation from renewable energy resources such as the solar, wind and hydrogen-powered fuel cells. The use of electric vehicles also contributes effectively to reducing carbon emissions results from traditional vehicles, which reduces the effects of climate change, and this is in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
This thesis aims to present an extensive scientific study on the modeling of the electric vehicle and the design of a system for controlling the electric vehicle, and providing this system with different control systems, and then studying the stable and transient performance of the electric vehicle using each control system separately, and making a comparison of the performance of all control systems to derive the best control method. It contributes to achieving the better dynamic performance of the electric vehicle while considering an actual drive cycle similar to reality. A simulation was conducted for whole system using the simulation program Matlab/Simulink to evaluate the performance of the electric vehicle using different control systems, some of which are traditional and others are proposed to obtain better performance. A laboratory investigation of the performance of the electric vehicle system was also carried out using a Digital Signal Processing Board (DSP).
The results obtained proved that the performance of the electric vehicle varies according to the used control system, in terms of acceleration time to reach the required speed, the amount of vibrations on the electric motor’s rotation axis, the current harmonic distortion of the electric motor currents, and the battery capacity consumption over time. Accordingly, the results of the best control method were considered among the different methods, which contributed in obtaining the best performance according to these criteria. The related results to all control system are included in the chapters assigned to them.
