Abstract

The objectives of the experiment are to examine whether applying Partial Uropygialectomy (PU) can improve the level of production performance and carcass traits of broiler chickens. Five treatments were used: control (without partial uropygialectomy (PU) operation), T1 (PU was removed at 14 days of age), T2 (PU was removed at 17 days of age), T3 (PU was removed at 21 days of age and T4 (PU was removed at 24 days of age). Two hundred, one day old of broiler chicks were randomly selected in experiment lasted in 6 weeks of age. Body weight, feed consumption, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and some carcass traits were studied. The results indicated that there was significant (P<0.05) increase in body weight due to (PU was removed at 14 days of age) at 4, 5 and 6 weeks of age. Body weight gain was significantly (P<0.05) improved during the periods from (0-1), (2-3) and (0-6) weeks of age when PU was removed at 14 days of age. Feed consumption was significantly (P<0.05) improved during the periods from (5-6) weeks of age when PU was removed at 14, 17 and 21 days of age. Feed conversion ratio was significantly (P<0.05) improved during the periods from (0-6) weeks of age when PU was removed at 14 days of age.
Abdominal fat percentage was increased significantly (P<0.05) in chicks PU was removed at 14 days of age compared to the other treatments. Results concluded that the uropygialactomy was removed at 14 days of age improved growth performance of broiler chicks.
Conclusions
from the present results, it could be stated that the application of uropygialactomy was removed at 14 days of age for broiler chickens could improve body weight, body weight gain and feed conversion ratio.
