Abstract
Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is currently one of the fastest-rising cancer diagnoses in the world. DTC has an excellent prognosis with appropriate treatment. The treatment of choice for patients with DTC is Total thyroidectomy, which should be followed by I-131 ablation to eliminate any residual thyroid tissue. One of the key elements that affect RAIT and the results of ablation is the amount of residual thyroid tissue. There are several diagnostic techniques to evaluate the residual, Tc-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy is one of them that is frequently used nowadays We aimed in this study to evaluate the prognostic value of post thyroidectomy TC-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy in DTC patients We found no significant correlation between thyroid scintigraphy and successful ablation but patients with low thyroid uptake <0.1 showed a significant correlation with excellent response.
