Abstract

Preterm birth is the birth occurring before 37 completed weeks of gestation. It is one of the greatest collective health problems seen in neonates and connected with insufficient compatibility with the extra uterine environment. It reflected an exciting problem with greater risk than full-term births in term of mortality and morbidity.
This study aimed to assess the degree of adherence of the physician to the accepted guidelines of hospital discharge criteria at the NICU of Assiut University Children Hospital. It was A prospective clinical audit study included all preterm neonate discharged from NICU of Assuit University Children’s Hospital between 1/5/2019 to 1/8/2019 to see how much it fulfil the standard criteria and what are the points of weakness to improve it by using checklist.
The items for checklist were demographic data, clinical assessment and screening and immunization assessment.
The main findings of the study indicated that slight female predominance, gestational age is34.5±2.4, admission weight 2.57±.6, maternal age 27±5.8 and maternal illness represented 75% of enrolled cases. The assessment of perinatal history was done in 100% of cases All cases were vitally stable before discharge. Screening and immunization assessment need more concern for improvement as only (33.4%) had received the first dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine during first 24hours of birth. (3.3%) undergone a Retinopathy of prematurity Screening while follow-up ophthalmological care has been arranged post-discharge for( 96.7%).There was a major defect assessment of hearing before discharge as it was not done for (100%) of cases but follow up arrangement was done .
Anemia screening assessment and iron prophylactic were done for98.3% of cases.
