Abstract Bone is a specialized connective tissue and together with cartilage forms the strong and rigid endoskeleton. These tissues serve three main functions: scaffold for muscle attachment for locomotion, protection for vital organs and soft tissues and reservoir of ions for the entire organism especially calcium and phosphate. Osteoporosis results from reduced bone mass and disruption of the microarchitecture of bone giving decreased bone strength and increased risk of fracture, particularly of the spine, hip, wrist, humerus, and pelvis.Vitamin D is important for normal development and maintenance of the skeleton. It is well known that, Vit. D deficiency is related to rickets and osteomalacia. The relationship between Vit. D and bone mineral density and osteoporosis are still controversial while new evidence suggests that, Vit. D may play a role in other bone conditions . Calcium, it is a basic constituent of hydroxyapatite crystals, the mineral component providing stiffness to the collagen network of mature bone the amin of this review to illustrates the relationship between Vit D and calcium for osteoporosis |
