Abstract Pediatric Early Warning Scores (PEWs) are physiologically-based scoring systems developed to identify patients admitted to inpatients pediatric wards and emergency departements at risk for clinical deterioration and may need PICU care, a recent puplication showed that early warning scores are needed to quickly identify critically ill patients so that treatment can be started without delay. Pediatric early warning score used parameters such as body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure and capillary refil in prediction of hospitalization. Normal parameters take into account the age-related differences based on Pediatrics Advanced Life Support. Patients admitted from the wards to an intensive care units have a much higher mortality than those admitted from the emergency department. Patients may be on the wards for days or even weeks before admission to ICU.the longer they are in hospital before ICU admission, the worse their prognosis. Vital parameters of hospitalized patients may deteriorate due to several reasons and subsequently require intensive care treatment, early detection will likely improve outcome. |
