Abstract
DM is a set of metabolic disorders characterized by the presence of hyperglycemia in the lack of treatment. The heterogeneous action-pathology involves defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both, and disruptions of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism. The harshest clinical symptoms are ketoacidosis or a non-ketotic hyperosmolar state that may lead to dehydration, coma, and, in the absence of effective treatment, death [1].
