Abstract

Purpose: to improve aesthetic and clinical outcome of breast reduction operation using superomedial pedicle technique of reduction mammoplasty.
Methods: In this prospective study, 15 females with breast hypertrophy were subjected to the study. preoperative assessment of some subjective data of each patient such as presence of physical symptoms, psychosocial wellbeing and satisfaction with body image preoperative depending on breast questionnaire. objective assessment of breast regarding measurement with great concern with SN-N length and other measurement such as nipple to inframammary fold distance (N-IMF), distance between the nipples, superior pole fullness by pinch test and inferior pole fullness. Assessment of presence of any breast mass and preoperative mammogram and ultrasound was done for exclusion of presence of any tumor. postoperative assessment included the subjective and objective, and detection of the improvment with superomedial pedicle reduction mammoplasty technique and assessment of presence of complications.
Results: In this study the mean age of the patients included in the study was 35.53±6.76 years, 93.3% of them were married and more than 59% of them had breast fed more than 2 children. Most of them (93.3 %) were non-smokers and 13.3% of them were diabetics. Mean BMI was 32.61±2.35 kg/m2 and > 86% of them were obese (BMI≥30 kg/m2). the mean pedicle length before mammoplasty was 33.07± 2.91 cm with the minimum 28 cm and maximum 38 cm, the mean after operation was 21.07±0.46 cm. Nipple to IMF before mammoplasty mean was 15.07 ± 0.80 cm, which became 7.13 ± 0.35 after. Nipple to nipple before mammoplasty was 26.67± 1.68 cm with maximum 30 cm, it became 20.93±0.26 after operation. The mean Body image satisfaction score before mammoplasty was 27.53%±5.08% with the
