Abstract

Background: Hypertension (HTN) is a public health issue worldwide. A higher percentage of men than women have high blood pressure until age 45(37.7% for men, 34% for women). from ages 45–54 and 55–64, the percentage of men and women is similar reaching 52.0%; after that a much higher percentage of women than men have high blood pressure (72.1% for men, 80.1% for women). Objective: to investigate the association between lipid levels, specifically TG/HDL-c and Non-HDL-C/HDL-C and central Bp. Patients and methods: This study comprised 248 adult patients who were divided into 84 normotensive patients (control group) and 164 hypertensive patients (study group). Results: There is a significant association between non-HDL/HDL with SBP, PP, MBP, EDD, EDV and ESV. TG/HDL ratio and non-HDL/HDL ratio were significantly higher in HTN compared to normotensive with (P<0.001). There is a positive correlation between TG/HDL ratio with FS, EF and RWT, while there is a negative correlation between TG/HDL ratio with EDD, ESD, EDV, and ESV. Conclusion: According to the finding in this study there was an association between lipid levels, specifically TG/HDL-C and non-HDL-C/HDL-C and the extent of central Bp.
