Abstract Back ground: A disaster is a type of emergency that, due to its complexity, scope, or duration, threatens the organization{u2019}s capacities and requires outside assistance to sustain patient care, safety, or security. Aim: This study aimed to assess of emergency departments preparedness and nursing staff training needs regarding chemical and biological disasters management .Design: a descriptive expletory design was utilized in conducting the study. Setting: this study was conducted at emergency department in el kaser elini hospital .subject: a study sample of 150 nurses Tools of data collection: Two tools were utilized, demographic data sheet, structured questionnaire sheet measure emergency department preparedness and training need assessment by knowledge test . Result there was no statistical significant difference relation between levels of preparedness to meet biological and chemical disasters and levels of knowledge. Conclusion: the study concluded that there inadequate level of emergency department preparedness and knowledge deficit regarding disaster management. Recommendation: An emergency department should establishing center for chemical and biological disaster management and continuing nursing education programs must be conducted for emergency nurses to face both chemical and biological disaster |
