Abstract

This work deals with synthesis of a novel series of visnagin derivatives of compounds:IV, Va-d, VIII, IX, XIa-d and also benzofuran derivatives XVa-e, XVI, XVIIa-e, XVIII, XIXa-f and XX. In addition, the structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by spectral and microanalytical data in order to evaluate their analgesic activity using tail flick method and also to test their biological activity as anti-inflammatory agentusing carragenan induced rat paw edema. All the tested compounds showed high analgesic and anti-inflammatory efficacy if compared to indomethacin as a reference drug and compound XIXa was found to have the highest efficacy as analgesic agent, while compound XIXd was the most efficient compound as anti-inflammatory agent with minimal GIT side effects
