Abstract Anatomical knowledge of variants of the hepatic vasculature is essential to reduce the iatrogenic complications in hepatobiliary surgeries, surgical management of liver trauma and other surgeries of this complex anatomical region. The aim of the present study was to describe the anatomical variations of hepato- biliary vasculature. The present study was carried out on 500 MDCT angiographic scans and 12 human adult cadavers. Normal hepatic arterial pattern anatomy was observed in 369 cases (73.8%), while 131 cases (26.2%) showed an anomalous hepatic arterial pattern. The most common origin of segment IV blood supply was left hepatic artery in 60.8%. It could be concluded that the anatomy of the hepatic artery is subjected to many variations |
