Abstract

The current study was carried to compare between 2Straumann3 Bone Ceramic (experimental group) and MTA (control group) as pulpotomy material in deciduous lower second molars through the clinical and the radiographic evaluation after a follow up for 1, 3 and 6 months. A total sample size of 30 mandibular lower primary second molars (15 in each group) was sufficient (done by Power & Sample size Calculator Statistical Solutions, LLC) Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients within the age group of 4-8 years irrelevant to their sex. 2.Patients who are medically free according to the history given by their parents or guardians. 3.Patients having deep carious lower E. 4.Possibility of proper restoration of the tooth after the pulpotomy procedure. 5.Patients who were free from symptoms related to irreversible pulpitis of lower E such as: continuous pain, pain that wasn{u2019}t relieved unless analgesic was taken, pain increasing during night or lying backward. 6.Absence of swelling, sinus, fistula or tooth mobility related to the lower E. 7.Absence of radiolucent lesions at furcation or periapical region, widening in the periodontal membrane space, absence of internal or external root resorption related to lower E. 8.Cessation of bleeding after the removal of pulp tissues and the application of wet cotton on the pulp stump. (No clinically detected radicular pulpal inflammation after pulpotomy procedure)
