Abstract

Objective: To detect the prognostic factors in synovial sarcoma management Background: Synovial sarcoma is a highly malignant high-grade tumor. It typically manifests between the ages of 15 and 40 years. However, it may be present at ages over 40 years. Clinicopathologic factors such as histological subtype, tumor size, tumor location, patient age and gender have been reported to be significant prognostic factors in some but not all studies. Methods: During the period between Febraury 2001 and October 2016 a prospective and retrospective study was conducted on 50 patients to assess prognostic factors that affect oncological outcome of synovial sarcoma the technique used was wide resection and postoperative radiotherapy. Results: DFS in our study group was estimated using Kaplan-Meier method. One, 2, 3, 5 years DFS was 72.8%, 55.9%, 50.8%, 45.2% respectively. Chest metastasis are found to be the most prognostic factor in mortality in our study
