Abstract Hypothyroidism is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease either in clinical or subclinical states. Epidemiological studies have suggested that patients with hypothyroidism have accelerated coronary atherosclerosis (cappola and ladenson, 2003; Ichiki, 2010). Arterialwall stiffness is suggested to be one of the links between hypothyroidism and multiple cardiovascular complications related to thyroid hypofunction as hypertension and early atherosclerosis (stabouli et al., 2010). Several methods were used for early detection of arterial wall stiffness. Among these methods, pulse wave velocity (PWV) is regarded as the most useful and robust index of arterial wall stiffness (Li et al., 2015). Also ankle brachial index (ABI) was previously considered as a surrogate marker for atherosclerosis in peripheral arteries hasimu et al., 2006 |
